Privacy policy

This page lists everything TidyAudio stores, everything it sends anywhere, and who receives it. It is written to match what the code actually does, so if the two ever disagree, the code is the bug and we would like to hear about it.

Your audio files

TidyAudio processes audio entirely in your browser, on your device. Files you open are read into your browser's memory, edited and encoded there, and saved back to your device. Your audio is never uploaded to, stored on, or seen by any server. This is not a policy choice that could quietly change with a settings flag; the site has no server-side processing to send audio to.

You can check this yourself. Open your browser's developer tools, switch to the Network tab, then open and edit a file. You will see the page's own code and the requests described below, and no request carrying your recording.

What TidyAudio stores in your browser

The site sets no cookies of its own and has no accounts. It uses your browser's local storage in exactly two places, and neither ever leaves your device:

• Your theme choice. If you use the sun or moon button, the words dark or light are saved under the name tidyaudio-theme so the next page opens the same way. Nothing is saved until you press it.
• A file dropped on the home page or a landing page. A web page cannot carry a file across to another page, so a file you drop is held for a moment in your browser's IndexedDB storage under tidyaudio-handoff, collected by the editor as it opens, and deleted as soon as it is read. Anything left there for more than five minutes is ignored and cleared.

You can remove both at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser settings.

Services the site contacts

Loading any web page sends your IP address, browser type and the address of the page to the server that answers. These are the services TidyAudio's pages contact, and none of them receives your audio, your file names or anything you edit:

• Firebase Hosting (Google) serves the pages themselves.
• Google Fonts serves the two typefaces the site uses.
• Google Analytics, described below.
• Google AdSense, described below, once ads are running.
• cdnjs (Cloudflare) serves the open-source LAME MP3 encoder, the first time you save an MP3.
• jsDelivr serves the open-source opencore AMR decoder, the first time you open an AMR voice memo.

The two codec libraries are program code, not data about you, and your browser caches them after the first download.

Analytics

TidyAudio uses Google Analytics 4 to count page views and see which tools people use, where visitors arrive from, and roughly what country and kind of device they are on. Google Analytics sets its own cookies (named _ga and _ga_ followed by an identifier) to tell repeat visits apart. It never sees your audio, your file names or anything you edit, because none of that is sent anywhere.

You can stop Google Analytics collecting data about your visits on every site with the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on. Google explains how it uses this data in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.

Advertising

TidyAudio is free and may show ads served by Google AdSense. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a visitor's prior visits to this website or other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and other sites on the internet.

You can opt out of personalized advertising from Google at Ads Settings, and opt out of many other vendors' use of cookies for personalized advertising at aboutads.info. Visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland are asked for their choices before personalized ads are shown, through Google's consent message.

Ad providers never receive your audio or anything about the files you edit.

Who runs this site

TidyAudio is published by Sugarpine Property Management LLC, a company registered in Colorado, United States, trading as SugarPinePM. Since the site has no accounts and no server-side processing, it holds no personal data about you to request, correct or delete. Anything you want to ask about that can go to the address at the bottom of this page.

Children

TidyAudio is a general audience tool and is not directed at children under 13. It does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

If what the site stores or sends changes, this page changes with it, and the date at the top moves. The most likely future change is adding a service, which would be listed above before it goes live.
